Traditionally neutrons have been detected with \({}^3\)He detectors, which produces an electrical pulse when a neutron is absorbed by an atom of \({}^3\)He, but many other types of neutron detectors have also been developed. As far as I am aware, all count individual neutrons, so that counting statistics (see ยง5.4) are obeyed.
